King Janaka declared that only the man who could string the mighty divine bow of Shiva would marry Sita. Rama not only strung it — he snapped it in two, winning his bride and his legend.
Sita, daughter of King Janaka of Mithila, is remembered as the embodiment of courage and grace. Her name means 'furrow' — a tribute to the earth from which she was found.
While ploughing a sacred field, King Janaka found an infant girl in a golden urn inside the furrow. He named her Sita and raised her as his daughter — a child of the earth itself.
